Virginia Motorsports Park (2023)

Smokies Garage had the incredible opportunity to be present at Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP)! Situated in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, just outside of Petersburg, VMP is a renowned 1/4 mile (0.402 km) dragstrip. Since its opening in 1994, it has been a prominent venue and initially hosted the prestigious Virginia NHRA Nationals organized by the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association).

The facility boasts an impressive seating capacity of 23,000 spectators, creating an electrifying atmosphere for racing enthusiasts. Virginia Motorsports Park is not only associated with NHRA events but is also a valued member track of the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA). The PDRA is a regional sanctioning body that oversees professional door slammer style drag racing in the 1/8 mile (0.201 km) category.

At VMP, fans can witness exhilarating races featuring Pro Stock and Pro Modified classes. The Pro Modified category is further divided based on the type of power boosters utilized, including turbochargers/superchargers, nitrous oxide systems, and an entry-level format with a 632ci limit. The Pro Stock class at VMP is known for its Mountain Motor configuration, adding to the excitement and variety of racing action.
